Oct. 9, 2008 - Adopt-A-Family Requests Your Participation

The 2008 Adopt-A-Family Program Coordinators are inviting the community to join them for another year of great giving. Past donors have been mailed a donor package requesting their participation to make this year even more successful than the last.
Adopt-A-Family matches needy children and families with community donors to provide extra assistance during the holiday season. In 2007, more than 1450 children and their parents were helped.
In November, The Children’s Foundation receives referrals for families and children who need assistance. Volunteers match these families with donors who wish to participate in the program. Donors are contacted with the first names and wishes of their matched children, as well as instructions for dropping off their donations at the Adopt-A-Family site. Volunteers then arrange for the gifts to be packaged and delivered to the families in time for their celebrations.
If you are interested in being a part of Adopt-A-Family, there are many ways that you can help:
- “Adopt” a family, child or teen and purchase the gifts on their wish list.
- Start a new family tradition of helping a family in need.
- Invite your book club, walking club or hockey team to make a collective donation to the program.
- Make a staff donation of gift cards, bowling passes, swimming passes, hockey tickets, etc. to be used throughout the year.
- Donate wrapping paper, gift bags and tape to help defray program costs.
- Volunteer to help us with the wrapping of gifts.
